Jungle trails  of PENANG

    Trail to Pantai Kerachut

Privacy is what you would get at the much secluded Pantai Kerachut (Kerachut Beach). Accessible only be sea or by hiking via jungle trails in the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve from the Teluk Bahang side, Pantai Kerachut rewards you with a beautiful scenery and on top of that an extraordinary lake located nearby the sea.

This lake is very unique because the water in the lake is separated into 2 layers; the top being the fresh water coming from a smaller nearby river and the bottom layer is the sea water that has higher density. There are only a few such lake in this world and this lake is one of them. If you deep your feet into the water, you can feel that the lower part is warmer than the upper part. During high tides, the sea water will flow into the lake and that is why there are 2 layers of water in the lake.

So, it is a very rewarding and educational trip to hike to Kerachut Beach. Although the journey of about one and a half hour along the narrow and rocky trail is taxing, it is worth the effort.
